Hackable Election Monitoring

Read this article yesterday at the Christian Science Monitor on the positive impact of SMS and Twitter on yesterday's referendum election throughout Kenya. It gave me warm fuzzies. Is that weird?

It reminded me of AGENCY'S ideas on "hackable infrastructures"--taking existing infrastructures and making them useful for the general public, including the marginalized public. Kenyans have taken a pre-existing technological infrastructure and altered it in order to benefit the masses. And the most amazing part--it worked!!

While the new constitution isn't perfect and will inevitably lead to various tensions and political conflicts, if Kenyans remain positive perhaps they will find peace and stability under their new laws.
